Mean Air Temperatures of Earliest and Latest Moisture Use
Mean air temperatures of earliest and latest moisture use are temperatures used for defining the extent of
a crop's growing season. The earliest moisture use takes place during the first planting of the crop, and
the latest moisture use takes place during the last harvest of the crop for annual crops. These
temperatures are basically a measure of how sensitive the plants are to frosts during the beginning and
the end of the growing season. These data are needed to operate the CU model. Data for these first three
categories are found in the following CRDSS database tables:
cropchar
cropgrowday
cropgrowper
These data are specific for the CU model, supporting crop evapotranspiration for the following methods:
Original SCS Blaney-Criddle, Enhanced SCS Blaney-Criddle, and the Penman-Monteith Reference Crop
Method. The data in these tables represent a union of all the coefficient data relating specifically to crops
for these methods. There are currently 21 crops supported.
The table contains one record for each crop and lists the crop number along with single
cropchar
attributes. The season dates, soil moisture characteristics, and temperature data are also found in the
table along with other characteristics.
cropchar
The growth coefficients are found in the remaining two tables. The table contains
cropgrowper
coefficients broken down by growing season percentages?this supports the SCS Blaney-Criddle method
only. The coefficients in the table are broken down by day where day is either a Julian
cropgrowday
day of the year, or similarly, a day of the projected growing season.
INFORMIX files, including create statements and INFORMIX ASCII downloads for the above, are
located on the in the directory.
crdss4.crdss.colostate.edu /crdss/data/cu_coeff
Soil Moisture Characteristics
Monthly soil moisture depletion coefficients describe soil/water interaction depending on soil
characteristics. These data are needed to operate the CU model.
Soil data supporting the CU model are found in the table. Coefficients representing water
cu_soil
content at field capacity and wilting point, and total available water are recorded for seven different soil
types. (Note - this will need to be updated for 12 soil types.)
INFORMIX files, including create statements and Informix ASCII downloads for the above data, are
located in on .
/crdss/data/cu_coeff crdss4.crdss.colostate.edu
Stock Ponds Characteristics
Stock ponds evaporation characteristics describe the amount of evaporation that can be expected from a
given surface area.
Ponds data for Division 4 were supplied by the State. RTi converted the State's data to an INFORMIX
table named . This table was mapped into the CRDSS table . The
ponds4 non_juris_dam
field of this table supplies the approximate storage volume of the associated pond. The
tank_capy
4
A 275 01.09.95 1.07-2 Lange
