the western slope, created in the previous DSS efforts. The file names included in the datasets
provided to the State are listed in Appendix C.
The crop characteristic file and crop coefficient file are a culmination of the crop types and
characteristics developed in the DSS efforts and found in published data. These files contain
TR-21 crop coefficients, high altitude crop coefficients for grass pasture above 6500 feet, and
locally calibrated coefficients developed for the South Platte and Rio Grande River Basins.
The crop patterns file assigns the high altitude calibrated coefficient for grass pasture to stations
located at elevations above 6500 feet in the Republican River basin, as recommended in SPDSS
Task 59.1 -Develop Locally Calibrated Blaney-Criddle Crop Coefficients. Stations located
below 6500 feet in the Republican River basin are assigned TR-21 coefficients for alfalfa. All
stations in the Rio Grande basin are assigned coefficients developed during the Rio Grande DSS.
The crop coefficients can be changed easily through the StateCU program interface.
Recommendations
None.
Comments and Concerns
The selected study period is 1950 through the most current year available. The TSTooI input
command files used in the development of this documentation were for the period of 1950
through 2003, the most recent data available at this time. The scoped subtask in Task 76
indicates that the statewide dataset should extend through 2004. At the time of this
documentation, HydroBase only included data through 2003, therefore the average annual results
presented in tables in this memorandum reflect values through 2003. Datasets provided to the
State have been extended through 2004.
Note that as command files are modified in the future to include additional years of data, the
results from filling missing data through regression may change slightly, however it is unlikely
to significantly affect the correlations and filled results. The analysis period in the regression
command in TSTooI can, however, be limited to reproduce the regression results based on the
1950 to 2003 time period.
Where to find more information
^ The SPDSS Task 53.2 -Collect and Fill Missing Monthly Climate Data memorandum
provides additional information on the development and testing of various regression
techniques utilized in this memo.
^ The SPDSS Task 59.1- Develop Locally Calibrated Blaney-Criddle Crop Coefficients
memorandum provides additional information the development of calibrated and high
altitude crop coefficients for the South Platte DSS study area.
Task 76 8 2.doc 17 of 17
