4. Create other StateCU input files using StateDMI
StateCU input files required to run a climate station consumptive use scenario include the
following:
• StateCU Response File (*.rcu) -lists the names of input data files required to run the
model. This file is created by hand.
• Model Control File (*.ccu) -lists the model control parameters including the time period
of the scenario, consumptive use analysis method, effective precipitation method, soil
moisture parameters, and level of desired output. This file is created by hand.
• Climate Station Information File (*.cli) -lists climate station ID, latitude, elevation,
location information and station name. This file is created by StateDMI.
• Structure Location File (*.str) -lists information on structures (equivalent to the climate
stations in this scenario), and assigns a climate station to each structure. This file is
created by StateDMI.
• Crop Characteristic File (CDSS.cch) -lists information on planting, harvesting and root
depth for the crop types used in the analysis. Note that this file is common to all State
CDSS consumptive analysis scenarios. This file is created by StateDMI.
• Blaney-Griddle Crop Coefficient File (CDSS.kbc) -lists the Blaney-Griddle crop
coefficients for the crop types used in the analysis. Note that this file is common to all
State CDSS consumptive analysis scenarios. This file is created by StateDMI.
• Crop Patterns File (*.cds) -lists acreage, crop type and crop percentages for the
structures. This file is created by StateDMI.
• Monthly Temperature File (*.tem) -time series of average monthly temperature for the
climate stations. This file is created by TSTooI, as described in the previous step.
• Monthly Precipitation File (*.prc) -time series of total monthly precipitation for the
climate stations. This file is created by TSTooI, as described in the previous step.
• Frost Date File (*.fd) -time series of annual frost dates for the climate stations. This file
is created by TSTooI, as described in the previous step.
The files required to run the StateCU consumptive use analysis specific to each basin follow the
naming convention of a river basin designation following by a "clim" designation and the date
developed to indicate that the dataset encompasses a climate station scenario, not a structure
scenario. For this analysis, the Arkclim and Repclim datasets were created for the Arkansas and
Republican Basins, respectively. These two datasets join SPclim for the South Platte River
Basin, RGclim for the Rio Grande River Basin, and COclim, which includes climate stations on
Task 76 8 2.doc 16 of 17
