Total water demands for 2000 in the SPDSS study area are approximately 677,000 acre-feet per <br />year. Task 5 memoranda for Key Municipalities may include total demand estimates that differ <br />from the demands outlined in Table 2. Task 5 demands may include population outside their <br />municipal boundaries or demands supplied by purchased water. <br />The Denver Water Board (DWB) serves the City and County of Denver plus a large population <br />in the metropolitan area outside of Denver County. DWB was unable to provide a breakdown of <br />population served in surrounding municipalities or counties. However, they were able to provide <br />a service area coverage and an estimate of treated water deliveries in 2005. For planning <br />purposes in the SPDSS Surface Water Model, the year 2005 DWB population was estimated first <br />by determining the census population of surrounding cities and counties based spatially on the <br />DWB service area. These values were adjusted slightly to reflect the DWB provided 2005 <br />estimated deliveries of about 250,000 acre-feet. The surrounding county populations were then <br />reduced by the estimated amount served by DWB, as reflected in the demands shown in Table 2. <br />In-House and Outside Ilse Demands <br />The split between the in-house and outside portions of the annual municipal user water demand <br />is important because each has different return flow percentages and timing. The SWSI Report <br />provided data on total municipal water user demand and did not differentiate between in-house <br />and outside demands. <br />Municipal entities were contacted or municipal engineering reports and decrees were reviewed <br />regarding the split between the in-house and outside portions of municipal water demand and <br />associated CU rates.
