The results of the study were <br />presented to and accepted by the community. <br /> <br />1.3 Authority and Acknowledgements <br /> <br />The source of authority for this Flood Insurance Study is the National Flood <br />Insurance Act of 1968, as amended. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />The hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for this study were performed <br />by Camp, Dresser and McKee Inc., Environmental Engineers, for the Federal <br />Insurance Administration, under Contract No. H-4014. This work, which was <br />completed in February 1977, covered all significant flooding sources <br />affecting the unincorporated areas of San Miguel County. <br /> <br /><! <br /> <br />? <br /> <br />2.0 AREA STUDIED <br /> <br />2.1 Scope of Study <br /> <br />This Flood Insurance Study covers the designated unincorporated areas of San <br />Miguel County, with the exception of the Towns of Sawpit, Norwood,Ophir, <br />and Telluride. The area of study is shown on the Vicinity Map (Figure 1). <br /> <br />The areas studied by detailed methods were selected with priority given to <br />all known flood hazard areas, areas of projected development and proposed <br />construction until December 1978. <br /> <br />Approximate methods of analysis were used to study those ar.eas having low <br />development potential and/or minimal flood hazards as identified at the <br />initiation of the study. The scope and methods of study were proposed to <br />and agreed upon by the Federal Insurance Administration and the <br />community. <br /> <br />.);).;0.. <br /> <br />Detailed study areas are shown in Table 1. The areas of approximate study <br />and their mileages are as follows: Gurley Ditch at Norwood, 1.5 miles; San <br />Miguel River at Beaver Creek, 2.7 miles; Leopard Creek at Leonard, 3.4 <br />miles; Alder Creek at Brown, 0.8 mile; San Miguel River west of Keystone, <br />1.4 miles; South Fork San Miguel River at Ilium, 3.4 miles; and South Fork <br />San Miguel River at Ames and Ophir, 4.4 miles. <br /> <br />2.2 Community Description <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />The study areas in the unincorporated areas of San Miguel County include <br />the unincorporated areas of Placerville and aredS in the vicinity of the Towns <br />of Telluride and Sawpit located in the southwestern part of Colorado's <br />mountain region.
