Initial use of
this information will be to convert the unincorporated areas of San Miguel
County to the regular program of flood insurance by the Federal Insurance
Administration. Further use of the information will be made by local and
regional planners in their efforts to promote sound land use and flood plain
management.

1.2

Coordination

-~

Upon the initiation of the study, a legal.notice was placed in the Telluride
Times on July 15, 1976, to notify all interested persons so they could submit
any relevant facts and technical data concerning local flood hazards.

~..

An initial coordination meeting was held on July 19, 1976. The meeting was
attended by; appropriate officials of the Town of Telluride and San Miguel
County, . a representative of the Federal Insurance Administration, a
representative of the State Coordination Agency, Colorado Water Conserva-
tion Board (CWCB), and representatives of Camp, Dresser and McKee Inc.
(CDM), the Study Contractor. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss
the nature and purposes of the study, the scope and limits of work, and flood
information currently available concerning the community.

"

;l

A search for basic data was made at all levels of government. Federal,
state, and local agencies were contacted as to the availability of any
reports, studies, or investigations which might contain information relative
to flooding problems in the com m uni ty.

"

During the course of the work by CDM, the results of hydrologic analyses
were reviewed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE), Sacramento
District, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the Soil Conservation Service
(SCS), and the CWCB. The final consultation and coordination meeting was
held on Monday, August 15, 1977, at the San Miguel County Court House.
