<br />The final community coordination meeting was held on April l8, 1977. <br />Members of the Mesa County Commission and representatives of the Mesa <br />County Planning Department, the Colorado Water Conservation Board, <br />the Federal Insurance Administration, the U.S. Army Corps of Engi- <br />neers, and local consulting engineers attended the meeting. No <br />criticism of the rE!port or data that would modify the findings of <br />the study were presented. <br /> <br />Ji_ <br /> <br />1.3 Authority and AckncMledgments <br /> <br />The source of authority for this Flood Insurance Study is the National <br />Flood Insurance Act of 1968, as amended. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />The hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for this study were performed <br />by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District, for the <br />Federal Insurance Administration, under Inter-Agency Agreement Nos. <br />IAA-H-16-75 and IAA-H-7-76, Project Order Nos. 21 and 1, respectively. <br />This work, which was completed in November 1976, covered all signifi- <br />cant flooding sources affecting the unincorporated areas of Mesa <br />County. <br /> <br />2.0 AREA STUDIED <br /> <br />2.1 Scope of Study <br /> <br />This Flood Insurance Study covers the unincorporated areas of Mesa <br />County, Colorado. Areas not included in this study include the Towns <br />of Collbran, De Beque, Fruita, and Palisade; the City of Grand Junc- <br />tion; White River, Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Manti-La Sal National <br />Forests, and Colorado National Monument. The area of study is shown <br />on the Vicinity Map (Figure 1). <br /> <br />;" <br /> <br />Because of substantial development in the Grand Junction area and <br />anticipated development in the Gateway area, it was agreed by the <br />county, the State, the Federal Insurance Administration, and the U.S. <br />Army Corps of Engineers that selected streams in those areas would be <br />studied by detailed methods. Negligible development is projected in <br />other areas of the county. The streams and watercourses agreed upon <br />for study by either detailed or approximate methods are shown in <br />Table 1. <br /> <br />Those areas studied by detailed methods were chosen with considera- <br />tion given to all proposed construction and forecasted develop~ent <br />through 1981. <br /> <br />;.,- <br /> <br />"" <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br />~ <br />
