The 700 mb and infrared cloud patterns in Fig. 29 indicate a narrow dry region was moving
into central Utah at 1700 with RRS near the bad edge of a broken cloud field The main upfH:r level
trough axis and its associated cloud field were over Nevada. This trough advanced eastward across
Utah throughout 22 February, and eventually brought general ridging to the \'''estern U.S.. dry
northerly flow to Utah, and an end to the extended storm period D. The beginning of the final stormy
~riod over the Wasatch Plateau began about 0200 on 22 February as moisture from the advancing
trough moved into the research area This is evident in Fig. 30, the RRS data, "ith the increase in
vapor and the onset ofSLW. The tempcmture remalOed quite cold at -12 to - 130 at RRS, and the
