Temperature records froD Station SlIfJffiit were used for the period July 1,
1909, to December 31, 1917. No records are available for the next 14
years. From August 1,1952, dataare from Station Soda Springs.

Snm\pack data \-.-ere all taken from the Laboratory. Tne data include 27
\"inters bebieen 1945-46 and 1975-76. Measurements \....ere not F!Clde during
the neriod 1952-53 to 1955-56.

The \\cater year used in this report covers the period frOCl October 1 to
Jlme 30. ~ data for the summer months are included in this analysis.
\',hile this has little effect on annual precipitation, it does result in
colder annual temperatures.

Precipitation varies frCEl year to year. The 76-year mean of 50.6
inches (128.5 cn) is bounded by a maximum of 81.8 inches (207.7 em) and
a rninirum of 18.9 inches (48.0 em) \....it.~ a standard deviation of 16 inches
(40.6 011.). T\ienty-four of the 76 years had precipitation of less than
40 in~hes (101.6 em), 34 years had from 40 to 60 inches (101.6 em to
152.4 an), and 15 years had precipitation anlOl.m.ts from 60 to 80 inches
(152.4 to 203.2 m.). Only one year }l.ad precipitation belm-; 20 inches
(50.8 em); and in only t\...D years WaS precipitation recorded In excess of
80 inches (203.2 em).

Annual precipitation recorded at the beginning of the century was hem;"y,
followed by a period of less than mean precipitation from 1910 to 1948.
A relatively \....et period occurred from 1949 to 1975. Although one may
be tempted to speculate that the two dry years (1975-76 and 1976-77)
suggest the beginning of another dry period, the data base is not adequate
to make such a speculation.

Perhaps the most one can say from evaluation of the annual precipitation
data is that in 43 out of 76 years (57 percent) subnoTInal precipitation
occurred. These are years L~ which increased Wa.ter supplies from

-19-
