Seeding hypotheses and <br />statistical evaluation procedures would be developed during the <br />initial three years of the program and would result in the selection <br />of an experimental design. Two examples of design approaches that <br />could be taken are randomization or target and control. <br /> <br />Statistical evaluation of cloud seeding would begin following <br />selection of an experimental design and continue during SNOWATER II - <br />Techno logy Delllons trat ion. <br /> <br />Criteria for the suspension of cloud seeding would be based on <br />measured snowpack depth in the Oldman River watershed exceeding some <br />specified percentage of normal. The CREST 1983 Program Plan, calls for <br />suspension of seeding when snowpack exceeds 150 percent of normal. <br /> <br />2.5 SUMMARY OF ANNUAL PROJECT TASKS <br /> <br />This section <br />SNOWATER I. <br />Figure 4. <br /> <br />discusses the principle project tasks for each year of <br />The suggested scheduling of these tasks is outlined in <br /> <br />2.5.1 YEAR ONE - PROJECT INITIATION AND SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT <br /> <br />2.5.1.1 Development of Experimental Design Plan <br /> <br />This initial activity would involve development of the experimental <br />design for SNOWATER I. This plan would include a conceptual model and <br />seeding hypotheses for snowfall augmentation. Specifications for <br />field studies would be included in annual Field Operations Plans. <br /> <br />2.5.1.2 Site Survey and Facilities Development <br /> <br />Preliminary aerial reconnaissance of the SNOWATER area would be <br />carried out with a view to identifying possible field sites. Locations <br />fo~ a field headquarters, a mountain observatory, and measurement and <br />operational systems identified would be found. <br /> <br />2.5.1.3 Equipment And Contracts Procurement And Testing <br /> <br />Critical systems and contracts would be procurred beginning in Year <br />One and continuing during Year Two.
