<br />-c-r - <br /> <br />- -~~~--....., <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />Northwest (Southwest) flow weather situations--precipitation <br />episodes or weather systems moving in a direction from <br />Northwest (Southwest) to Southeast (Northeast) and generally <br />along or parallel with the upper level wind flows_ observed <br />near the 500 rob level. <br /> <br />Orographic cloud--a cloud whose form and extent is determined by <br />the disturbing or lifting effects or orography upon the <br />passing flow of moist air. <br /> <br />Rawinsonde--A method of upper-air observation consisting of an <br />evaluation of the wind speed and direction, temperature, <br />pressure and relative humidity aloft by means of a ba1loon- <br />borne radiosonde tracked by a radio direction finder. <br /> <br />Remote CNG (Remote Cloud Nuclei Generator)--A cloud nuclei <br />generator generally located in remote areas operated and <br />controlled by te1emetered radio signals. <br /> <br />Runoff--The water derived from precipitation, including the <br />melting of snowpacks, that ultimately reaches stream channels. <br /> <br />Strataform c1ouds--Descriptive of clouds of extensive horizontal <br />development, as contrasted to the vertically developed <br />cumuliform types. <br /> <br />Synoptic scale--Of large scale or size such as the scale or <br />dimension of migratory weather systems that may cover as <br />much as half of the United States at one time. <br /> <br />Teletype data--Meteorologica1 data transmitted from a weather <br />center to individual weather stations via telephone wires <br />to a typing printer. <br /> <br />Trough--In meteorology, an elongated area either on the surface <br />or aloft of relatively low atmospheric pressure, usually <br />associated with cloudiness and possible precipitation; the <br />opposite of a ridge. <br /> <br />-88- <br /> <br />....~ <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />: <br /> <br /> <br />- <br />
