activities are conducted to provide additional watE!r for both hydroelectric
and irrigation reservoirs.

November-February - During the northeast monsoon pE!riod cloud seeding
operations are occasionally conducted by two to three rainmaking teams for
paddy and field crops cultivation in southern and E!astern parts of
Tha 11 and.

2. Implementation procedure

The implementation of the seeding technology is directed by a field
operation manager and the staff of scientists who interpret the essen-
tial weather data and information for operation planni.ng and decisions.
The field operation manager operates in accordanCE! with seeding design
specifications based on intuition and experience. The following steps
typically are taken by the RRRDI in implementing al cloud seeding
operation:

o Advance activities:

- Transport all supporting facilities and chemicals to the
selected operational airbase, usually upwind of the target area.

- Consult with the provincial authorities fOlr priorities on areas
and ask for cooperation in reporting precipitation.

- Contact local support organizations such as: the local meteoro-
logical station, domestic radio and telex communications, the
airport authorities, etc.

- Survey the topography and local weather conditions.

- Plan and prepare for evaluation.

o Operational activities:

- Collect all weather observation data by 0800 local time inclu-
ding:

. ground information from the local me:teorological station.,

.

regional forecast, synoptic situation, and general weather
map from the Meteorological Departme:nt through the single-
side band radio network.

.

radiosonde observation.

Plan daily operation to include:

. determining the target area.

selecting the seeding site, flying distances, and
directions.

,~

~

.

32
