3

Mounting costs for the field observations necessitated a. substantial

deferral of this analysis program at CSU by the Utah Department of Natural

!-

Resources during the initial year (the revised analysis proposal requested by the

!

Department of Natural Resources, which served as the actual work plan, is

included as Appendix A).

Cloud physics aircraft analyses had to be limited to developmE~nt of

Cyber compatible programs to produce tabular data of state parameter and FSSP

data and complete flight analysis of two storm systems except: for 2Dc image

data. CompletE~ case study analysis, utilizing data from all instrument systems,

and providing cloud descriptions on all scales had to be deferred until the

remaining data sets could be integrated into the analyses.

This report covers CSU analysis efforts related to:

1. Software development to process or analyze Ku-band and aircraft data sets.

2. The Ku-band radar and rawinsonde observations.

3. Aircraft observations, including navigation, state parameter and

~

cloud supercooled liquid water analyses.

4. Interpretative analyses of two case studies.

The significance of the preliminary findings are discussed.

~

:0<
