III.

FACiliTIES AND EQUIPMENT

The field facility has headquarters in Steamboat
Springs, Colo., and leases a portion of the building
that houses the U.S. Forest Service, figure 10. The
offices include a meteorological room with Service A
and Service C weather teletype, the project engi-
neer's office and a data reduction area. Administra-
tive and data reduction/analysis work are done here.
Laboratory facilities are located at Valley View
Lodge, 8 miles from Steamboat Springs and at an
altitude of 7,600 feet, figure 11. Construction and
testing of sensors is done in the 500 square foot
laboratory, environmental testing in a I-acre pasture
behind the lab, and particle detection in a ,separate
cabin which serves as a "clean room".
Seven of our personnel, and their families, are
stationed in Steamboat Springs.
Transportation is provided by two 4-wheel-drive

Jeep station wagons, a 4-wheel-drive Carryall and a
stake truck which carries the Tucker Sno-Cat over
open roads. In the winter season, the Sno-Cat is
needed to reach all ridge stations and the Emerald
Mountain diffusion and artificial nuclei generator
test station, figure 12. Our company leases sensor
sites at the laboratory, Milner, Mad Creek, Emerald
Mountain and Lufkin from private individuals;
the Bureau of Reclamation leases the Mt. Harris
radar site.
In the following description of specific equip-
ment, the reader will find it convenient to refer to
figure 6 for geographical locations.

Particle Detection Equipment

Zinc sulphide is the tracer material for diffusion
tests. Dispensing is done from Emerald Mountain,

&~... '

Figure lO.-Steamboat Springs Facility Headquarters.

11
