CIC will thus monitor storm
intensity as a normal part of the operations.

(c) Safety Procedures
(i) Severe Weather Watch: 'CIC will monitor conditions
closely and seed only clouds that do not have severe
potential as determined by the Georgetown radar.
(ii) Severe Weather Warning: CIC will suspend operations.
(iii) Hurricanes: CIC will suspend operations when a
hurricane center is projected to be within 150
nautical miles of the nearest point of the target area.

2.4 Weather Radar System
The weather radar set used during the 1978 program was
an Enterprise 100-2 C-Band uni.t equipped with a video integrated inte-
grated display (VID), PPI, and RHI scopes, and IFF beacon tracking
system. An 8-mm camera was used to take time-lapse film of an
auxiliary PPI scope. Additional equipment included a radar test set,
signal generato~, oscilloscope and a supply of spare parts. 'rhe radar
specifications are listed in Table I.
The Plan Position Indicator (PPI) is a cathode ray tube
(CRT) that displays a plan view of a cloud system with echo location
determined in range and azimuth from the .radar site. The meteorolo-
gist can select several scales for the display; 250, 125, and SO NM.
The first two scales are used primarily to monitor the approach of
weather systems while the 50 NM scale is most often used for seed-
ing operations.
The Range Height Indicator (RHI) display is generated
on an additional CRT. The RHI displays a vertical cross section of

11
