Potential material suppliers expressed in-
terest in the project by replying to an RFP
(request for proposals) published in the
Commerce Business Daily. Twenty propos-
als were accepted, and others are under
consideration for next year. From Novem-
ber 1991 to March 1993, 18 of 20 plarmed
test sections were constructed. To ade-
quately represent constructability and
construction costs, each test section had a
length between 300 and 1000 feet and an
area of about 5,000 ft2. The research pro-
ject has cost $3.2 million to date. The
material suppliers and irrigation districts
have contributed $1.9 million, and Recla-
mation has contributed the remaining $1.3
million.
The 18 completed test sections include:

- Arnold 1 -Petromat MB-II geocom-
posite (4-mil polyethylene
geomembrane sandwiched between
two layers of geotextile) with 3-inch
shotcrete cover
- Arnold 2 - 30-mil VLDPE (very-low-
density polyethylene) geomembrane
with a geotextile cushion and 3-inch
shotcrete cover
- Arnold 3 - 80-mil exposed HDPE
(high-density polyethylene geomem-
brane)

- Arnold 4 - 30-mil PVC (polyvinyl
chloride) geomembrane placed be-
tween two layers of geotextile
- Arnold 5 - 45-mil exposed Hypalon
geomembrane with a geotextile cush-
ion
- Arnold 6 - 36-mil exposed Hypalon
geomembrane with a geotextile cush-
ion
- Arnold 7 - 40-mil PVC geomembranf
with 3-inch Annorfonn grout-filled
mattress cover
- Arnold 8 - 3-inch Armorfonn con-
crete-grout mattress
- Arnold 9 - 60-mil exposed VLDPE
geomembrane with a geotextile cush-
ion and with 3-inch Annorfonn
concrete cover on sideslopes
- Arnold 10 - 60-mil HDPE geomem-
brane with a geotextile cushion and
with 3-inch Armorfonn concrete
cover on sideslopes
- North Unit 1 - (SPUF) sprayed poly-
urethane foam with Futura- flex
coating
- North Unit 2 - SPUF with Geothane
coating
- North Unit 3 - Exposed Tietex geotex-
tile with Geothane coating
- North Unit 4 - Exposed Phillips
geotextile with Geothane coating
