Two cloud models are avai lable for EON processing: GPCM and
MESOCU, GPCM is a simple, fast. one-dimensional, steady-state,
convective cloud model developed by Hirsch [7]. It analyzes the
poten, tial for convective development within the constraints of a 1-0
steady-state cloud model [8] using a specific sounding as input.
The model computes a convective condensation level, checks to see if
the surface convect ive temperature for the input sounding may be
reached; if so, it simulates Lagrangian parcel dynamics of the cloud.
This model has been modified to provide an analysis of sounding
stabi I i ty, moisture, and wind shear for selected levels above the
ground as shuwn in table 3, The model also provides a summary of
internal microphysical structure of clouds for the six radi i
simulated. The model may be considered as an objective analysis tool
which quantifies processes such as parcel buoyancy. water loading.
entrainment, and wind shear. which affect convective cloud growth,
The virtual temperature of cloud and environment are plotted in
figure 4 for the 10.-km updraft radius case shown in table 3.

10

-90

-70

-50 -40

STAT 10N/OATE MA 79071715
/ UPORArT RAOIUS IKMJ 10,0

20
..,
a: -
a.. 30 ENV I RONMENTAL TEMP .
