WILDLIFE DATA

The program for field investigations for fish and
wildlife is expected to include user census, fishlife
census by non-destructive means, water temperature mea-
surements, and wildlife transects. None of the inves-
tigations wi1l have any detrimental effect on the en-
vironment.

PLAt~T DATA

The program for field investigations for plants and
trees of all types is expected to include a census by non-
destructive means. None of the investigations will have
any detrimental effect on the environment.

WATER QUALITY, ARCHAEOLOGICAL, HISTORICAL, AND
RECREATION STUDIES

All of these investigations would involve only field
reconnaissance, and, in the case of water quality, monitor-
ing periodic sampling. As recommended by consultants, some
trenching may be done for archaeological artifacts.

PROPOSED RESTORATION PROCEDURES

.

A.

General

Restoration procedures at the sites would be agreed
to in detail with the U. S. Forest Service and other property
owners in the process of obtaining easements, agreements, or
permits for the investigations. General proposed restoration
procedures are as follows:

1) Cleared trees will be cut flush with the ground.

2) If the ground surface has been disturbed, it will
be regarded and slash would be distributed around the clearing
to provide soil protection.

3) Any remaining slash that is three inches or larger
in diameter will be cut into appropriate lengths and burned,
or otherwise disposed of.

4} Liberal use of hay and annual rye grass seeding will
be implemented in areas where ground cover is removed or where
general ground disturbance occurs, for the purpose of erosion
control. Other alternatives for mulch might be straw, sawdust,
or wood and bark chips.

5) The drill site will be completely cleaned up including
removing of all of the equipment, garbage, barrels and pallets
remaining on the site.

-14-
