<br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />i I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />PART - I I OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE <br /> <br />4,0 OPERATION PLANS AND CRITERIA <br /> <br />4.1 Levees <br /> <br />During flood periods, the levees shall be patrolled <br />continuously to locate possible sand boils or unusual <br />wetness of the landward slope and to be certain that: <br /> <br />a. There are no indications of slides or Sloughs <br />developing. <br /> <br />b. Wave wash or scouring action is not occurring. <br /> <br />c. No low reaches of levee exist which may be overtopped. <br /> <br />d. No other conditions exist which might endanger the <br />structure. <br /> <br />Appropriate advance measures will be taken to insure the <br />availability of adequate labor and materials to meet all <br />contingencies. Immediate steps will be taken to control any <br />condition which endangers the levee and to repair the <br />damaged section. <br /> <br />4.2 Channel <br /> <br />Appropriate measures shall be taken to prevent the formation <br />of jams of debris or trash. Large objects which become <br />lodged against the bank shall be removed. The improved <br />channel shall be thoroughly inspected immediately following <br />each high water period. The soil-cement channel invert <br />beneath the Burlington Northern Railroad bridge shall be <br />cleaned and inspected each year as noted in the ANNUAL <br />INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE REPORT.
