<br />c. Precipitation Gauges <br />A network of weighing precipitation gauges which have <br />been modified to increase their resolution will be <br />operated at sites shown in Figure 2. These gauges are <br />Belfort Model 5-780 (weighing type) which have been <br />modified from the standard 8-inch (20.3 cm) diameter <br />orifice to either a 17.9-inch (45.5 cm) or 11.3-inch <br />(28.7 cm) diameter. The capacity of the 17.9-inch gauge <br />is about 2.4 inches (6.1 cm) of liquid precipitation and <br />that of the 11.3-inch gauge is approximately 6 inches <br />(15.2 cm). These gauge orifices are 5 and 2 times the <br />area of the standard 8-inch gauge, respectively. <br /> <br />Data will be recorded on strip charts at all locations. <br />The Island Lake site will also be monitored by a PROBE <br />station to provide precipitation and other information <br />in near real-time. In addition, a newly developed load <br />cell gauge will be tested at this site. <br /> <br />Table 2 lists the elevation and gauge orifice(s) to be <br />used at each site. <br /> <br />15 <br />
