This report <br />concluded: <br /> <br />"Taking into consideration availability, quantity, quality, and <br />cost of the augmentation alternatives, weather modification <br />appears to be the most promising source of new water supply in <br />the Western States" (page 152). <br /> <br />Initiation of two comprehensive research projects and accompanying <br />social-environmental studies were recommended within the decade: <br />(a) a demonstration program in the Colorado River Basin, and (b) a <br />cooperative pilot program in the northern Sierra Mountains. The <br />westwide report also recommended consideration of a scientifically <br />ori lmted project in the North Pl atte or Rio Grande bas ins to deve 1 op <br />new techniques and cloud seeding systems. <br /> <br />Weather Modification Advisory Board <br /> <br />In J\pri 1 1977, the Secretary of Commerce appointed the Weather <br />Modification Advisory Board in support of obligations under the <br />Nat'ional Weather Modification Policy Act of 1976 !:if. A 17-member, <br />non-Federal interdisciplinary board from various backgrounds was <br />assembled and held 12 public meetings throughout the Nation, seeking <br />information and opinions from all sources.
