Research Support <br /> <br /> <br />Weather forecasts will be made, meteorological observations will be <br /> <br /> <br />taken, and rawinsonde and precipitation data will be collected in sup- <br /> <br /> <br />port of the research. <br /> <br /> <br />a. Weather forecasts. The Field Director will be responsible for <br /> <br /> <br />issuing weather forecasts. The weather forecasts will be based largely <br /> <br /> <br />on forecast information pl~ovided by the North American Weather <br /> <br /> <br />Consultants operations centE!r in Salt Lake City. That forecast infor- <br /> <br /> <br />mation depends largely on National Weather Service (NWS) service A, ser- <br /> <br /> <br />vice C, and NAFAX data and prognoses received in Salt Lake City. The <br /> <br /> <br />weather forecast issued by the Field Director will depend on certain <br /> <br /> <br />supplemental information as well. This includes GOES satellite imagery <br /> <br /> <br />received at the Field. Headquarters in Beaver over a special Ii nk with <br /> <br /> <br />the nearest NOAA Satellite Field Service Station, upper air information <br /> <br /> <br />obtained from the AdamsvillEi rawinsonde station, and local meteorologi- <br /> <br /> <br />cal observations made at the Field Headquarters and at the NCAR C-band <br /> <br /> <br />radar and Merchant Valley rE!mote sensing sites. <br /> <br /> <br />Weather forecasts will be issued twice daily. At 0900 MST a fore- <br /> <br /> <br />cast for general planning pllrposes will be issued. It will affect work <br /> <br /> <br />schedules for the coming 12 hr period and for longer periods if there is <br /> <br /> <br />high confidence in the fOrl!Cast. The forecast will be part of the <br /> <br />general briefing to occur daily at 0900 MST at Field Headquarters. At <br /> <br /> <br />2100 MST an updated forecast will be issued. It will modify the morning <br /> <br /> <br />forecast as necessary and support planning for the upcoming night hours <br /> <br />and for the next day. If dear weather is anticipated for an extended <br /> <br /> <br />period, some forecasts may be omitted but with notification by the Field <br /> <br /> <br />Director of his intention to do so.
