.

.

.

.

./

~>

.

.

.

.

.

It is clear from the foregoing that several different groups will be

participating in the analysis of each of the cloud physics and kinema-

tics experiments. To an extent' they will be using different parts of

the total data set and will be following different approaches. The full

potential of their work will be realized, however, only if there is a

joining together of the results at some stage. The Lead Scientists have

the important responsibility of ensuring interaction of the various

groups, coordination of their work, and joint publication of the

results.

It is fully expected that case studies will be made of selected

STORMS. Selection of STORMS will depend in part on availability of

reasonably complete data sets. The case-studies will aim to explain the

environmental conditions leading to the STORMS, the evolution of the

STORMS, and the physical and dynamical processes within the STORMS which

lead to precipitation on the Tushar Mtns or prevent it. In view of the

cooperative nature of the Utah / NOAA research program the case studies

will likely represent the joint efforts of a number of investigators.

It is clearly premature at this stage to assign analysis respon-

sibilities for individual case studies. The overall matter will,

however, be the responsibility 'Df the Principal Scientist.

37
