T'lese pipes are <br />surrounded by brick masonry, and ali discharge into a <br />culvert which extends through the dam and cischarges <br />into a distributing channel, called the Pawnee Canal. <br />In my notes I find that 1,950 tons of brick, 350 barrels of <br />cement and 160 loads of sand have been used in this <br />structure. <br /> <br />The !OSS of water in Queen Reservoir from seepage <br />and evaporation amounts to a total of about 6 feet per <br />annum, including the rainfa!1. which ranges from 10 to <br />16 inches per annum. The net loss is, therefore, about <br />5 feet, over an average area of perhaps not to exceed <br />1,800 acres, or 9,000 acre-feet per annum. As the Fort <br />Lyon supply in this reservoir is 23.8% of its available <br />capacity, this proportion of the total loss would amount <br />to 2,.42 acre-feet per annum, or say 178 acre-feet per <br />month. <br /> <br />Satanta Canal. <br />The Reservoir is fed from the main Kicking Bird supply <br />canal by a branch cal'ed the Satanta Canal. \vhich s <br />taken off about one mile from the lowest end of the Kick- <br />ing Bird. This Canal is 12.2 miies long from its head to <br />its point of discharge into the Queen Reservoir. Hence <br />the VJater has to travel a total distance of 89.7 miles <br />from the river. The Canal is 16 feet deep, and has a <br />capacity of 300 second-feet. Tne grade is u'1iform to a <br />point one mile from the reservoir. which point is 47.5 <br /> <br />5-1- <br />
