evation. The original filing on this site was made Sep-
tember 10:,\ 1903, claiming a capacity of 61.575 acres.
which the natural reservoir has without the building of
any artificial dike or dam. A further filing has been made
to increase the capacity to 94,231 acre-feet, by the ad-
dition of a layer 8 feet in depth over the present high-
water mark. This wili require the building of a dam 7,450
feet in length, with a maximum height of 13 feet, and
crest eievation of 4,131.2 feet above sea-level. The
dam will contain 163,500 cubic yards, and require 2,000
cubic yards of reinforced concrete rip-rap over its face.
The available depth of draft in the reservoir is to be 32
feet when completed.

The reservoir is still under construction, but will be com-
pleted before June F. The cost of the 'Nork to Febru-
ary F, 1910, has been 572,270.31. This covers the
excavation of the outlet cut, which is nearing comple-
tion, and in which will be laid four lines of 36-inch double
strength vitrified pipe, each 200 feet long, and each pro-
vided with 36-inch Coffin sluice valves, made in Bos-
ton. To build the dam and complete the work is esti-
mated to cost 539,185.00.

The outlet canal from the reservoir gates to Adobe Creek
is being excavated by natural hydraulic sluicing, using
the erosive power of the water brought by the "Circle
Ditch" from the Storage Canal. A large part of the exca-
vation was accomplished by the use of 100 second-
feet of water before the winter set in. The cut was started
by a ditching machine, which made a narrow slit 12 feet
deep in the hardpan, after 3 feet of surface soil was
stripped off, and when the water was turned on it speediiy

49
