CDM

Section 5
Conservation Goals

conservation efforts. Goals 1 through 3 target quantitative water savings goals, while
Goals 4 and 5 focus on Erie's selection of conservation measures/ programs and
implementation of these measures/programs. Section 9 provides more information.

Figure 5-1 conceptually illustrates the quantitative water conservation savings targets
for Goals 1 and 3, respectively. The total targeted water savings of 1,350 AFY by the
2014 (Goal 1) includes both demand management and reclaimed water use. For
purposes of this Plan, the use of recycled (reclaimed) water is a second-time use and is
considered conserved water. Through the use of reclaimed water, Erie offsets the need
for additional first use water, decreasing overall water needs. As shown in Figure 5-1,
demand management savings are targeted to provide 610 AFY of water savings
whereas reclaimed water use is targeted to save approximately 740 AFY.

7,000
6,500
6,000
:> 5,500
LL
~
(I) 5,000
"'C
s::::
(tIi
E 4,500
Q)
0
4,000
3,500
3,000
2007

Saving s from
r1er:p~ Mgmt

Saving s from
Re claim ed
Water Use
740 MY

;.I-p- -~b\e-Water-Demand
Rawanu Old

2008

2009

2010

2011

2012

2013

2014

- Tdal Projected Demands (Pdable, Raw, & Reclaimed Water)
- Tdal Projected Demands (Pdable, Raw, & Reclaimed Water) with Demand Management
-Potable and Raw Water Demands

Figure 5-1 Projected Water Demands with and without Conservation
(Assuming Goal 1 targeted savings)

The total targeted savings of 1,350 AFY (equivalent to 221 gpcd) specified in Goal 1
was developed by evaluating the historical per capita water usage for potable and
raw water shown in Figure 5-24. (As discussed above, reclaimed water usage is not
included in per capita demands because for purposes of this Plan, reclaimed water is
considered conserved water). A per capita water usage of 221 gpcd was chosen as the
targeted per capita demand for 2014 following reclaimed water use and demand
management. This per capita demand is higher than the majority of historical per
capita demands shown in Figure 5-2.

4 The 221 gpcd includes use of raw/lease water as well as billed and unbilled potable water.
As discussed in Section 3, the per capita water usage of billed potable water would be
significantly less.

DRAFT

5-2

\\DENSVR1\PROJECTS\9228 - ERIE\CONSERVATION PLAN\REPORT\DRAFT PRIOR TO PUBLIC REVIEW\CONNIE FORMATTED\SECTION 5.DOC
