IWater savings estimation assumes an average potable water demand of 2,227 AFY (2002 -
2006)
L. Water savings estimation assumes an average potable water demand of 2,257 AFY (2003 -
2006)

* rrable...1 provides the general assumptions and calculations assumed to estimated water
savings.

Water Wasting Ordinance
Erie adopted a water wasting ordinance to prohibit the wasting of water in 2002. The
wasting of water is defined as "any use of water that is not applied to a beneficial
use." This includes allowing water intended for irrigation or other purposes to pool
in an area and/ or run onto streets and sidewalks or into a drainage facility. The
ordinance further specifies that all leaks should be repaired within ten days of
discovery. All water that is lost through the leak (on the user side) will be charged to
the user.

Written notice of an infraction shall be delivered to the water user. If the water user
does appropriately address the water wasting, the user may be subject to a fine of up
to $300 in any given month or their water services may be terminated.

Irrigation Audit Program
Since 2004, Erie has partnered with a local nonprofit, the Center for ReSource
Conservation, to provide a free irrigation audit program for residential and
commercial customers. The audit program is designed to identify irrigation
inefficiencies. The auditor checks soil type, root depth, and sprinkler pressure as well
as advises residents on how to adjust water schedules, identify broken sprinkler lines
and heads, adjust head types and spacing, and educate residents on how to determine
suitable pressures for the irrigation system. This program provides water savings and
water usage costs as well as reduces runoff (improving water quality). Table... shows
the number of audits and annual estimated historical water savings.

Table 2-8 Water Audit Program Estimated Annual Savings

Number of Participants Estimated
Annual
Residential Town Savings
Year Properties HOAs Commercial Parks (AFY)
2004 56 4 1 3 1.5
2005 104 0 0 0 1.6
2006 86 2 0 0 1.5

Total 4.6

.
