<br /> <br />, <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />News and NOles from the <br />SOUTHEASTERN COLORADO WATER CONSERVANCY DISTRICT <br /> <br />VOLUME 2, ISSUE 11 <br /> <br />ARKANSAS VALLEY <br />CONDUIT UPDATE <br /> <br />The District Board ac- <br />cepted responsibility from the <br />Participant Gronp that has <br />been working to move the <br />Arkansas VaHey Conduit <br />(Conduit) along for the past <br />two years. At the September <br />Board meeting. the Board as, <br />signed the responsibility to <br />the Enterprise to move the <br />process to the point of design <br />and build. <br />This course of action will <br />include getting the authoriz- <br />ing legislation for the Frying- <br />pan - Arkansas Project <br />amended to include a 75 per- <br />cent cost share by the Federal <br />government for the Conduit. <br />The Enterprise wiH also work <br />toward obtaining appropria- <br />tions for the Conduit, and es- <br />tablishing a govcmillg entity <br />lor the Conduit. <br />A hearing \\'3S held at the <br />United States Senate subeom, <br /> <br />mittec on Water & Power on <br />October 15.2003. Execu, <br />tive Director Jim Broderick <br />along with Senator AHard <br />and Congresswoman Mus- <br />grave. testified for the <br />amendment at the hearing <br />on behalf of the District and <br />participants. The legislation <br />is expected to move forward <br />in both the Senate and the <br />House of Representatives in <br />2004. <br />Currently. staff is work, <br />ing with the participants to <br />get a Memorandum of Au- <br />thority (MOA) signed with <br />each participating entity as <br />well as setting up a commit- <br />tee to work through the next <br />steps.
