Souths ide Collection System <br /> <br />Geographic Information System <br /> <br />In the Fall of 2002, the Dis- <br />trict slalf received approval of a <br />plan presented by Bob Hamil- <br />ton, the- District's Water Re- <br />source Manager to engage a <br />l'onsultallt 10 work on the Dis- <br />trict's GCl.lgraphie Jllfi.lf1natiun <br />Systcm's (GIS) data base. The <br />following brief owrview ex- <br />plains whe-re we an~ today and <br />what we hope to accomplish in <br />the future. This bold initiative <br />identilie-s and makes possible <br />real henctits for the staff. the <br />Directors, and the District as iI <br />whole-. <br />Phase- One- of the planning <br />proecss began with a base-line of <br />the Distril.:t's digital data assets. <br />This \vork included a compre. <br />hensive inventory of b.lse map- <br />ping neede-d as well as the ba. <br />sics 10 include an accuratc dc- <br />lineation of the 195X and the <br />::!OD::! District boundaries. Ilhasc <br />One- is RO percent complete- and <br />a Water Rights Data Base and <br />graphics tile has been create-d. <br />A 1979 District dl'crecd <br />boundaries is in thc last key <br /> <br />piece oflhis phase and will be <br />in place some time e-arly in <br />2004. Also. a comprehensive <br />project plan will be in plaee <br />later this year 111,lt will hC'Jp us <br />understand the questions that <br />need to he answered in order to <br />ma.ximile the financial hencfits <br />to the District. To dale. flhase- <br />One is nearing completion and <br />furl her work is on the horizon <br />for this very important ongoing <br />effort. <br />Future plans include: identi- <br />fying and creating additional <br />lllap owrlays, anu dala that will <br />be uniqudy related to thl.'
