The five director <br />position<; t1ut will be appointcd in <br />April arc from the following <br />rc""li"""J""P<JIl<.:......./);rt'(.'"'' <br /> <br />MARCH 31. 2002 <br /> <br />THE REAL TRAVESTY <br /> <br />This week, I had the <br />experience of testifying before <br />the Water and Power <br />Subcommitte~ of the House of <br />Representatives' Resources <br />Committee, I testified in <br />support of I1.R. 3881-the <br />legislation bl.'ing advocated by <br />the communities within the <br />Southe.1stl'rn Colorado \Vater <br />Consl.'rvancy District (District) <br />to start thl.' process of <br />dcvt.'loping much needed <br />additional water storage <br />capacity in the Arkansas Rivl'r <br />basin. <br />It was a humbling <br />experience, not because of the <br />grand decor of the <br />Subcommittee hearing room, or <br />the protocol of the proo,-'edings- <br />--t.'veryonl.' saying "Mr," and <br />"Congressman," and talking <br />nice about each other even <br />though they disagreed. No, it <br />was a humbling experience <br />because I now have a better <br />undcrst.mding of the dedication <br />it took to create the Fry-Ark <br /> <br />Project (the Project) as it exists <br />today, and because the future of <br />communities in southeastern <br />Color<ldo are vested in our <br />ability to create <l vision tll<1t <br />unites us, To think that O\'l'r <br />forty years ago k'aders from <br />southeastl'rn Colorado did the <br />same thing I did the last two <br />days-walked the halls of <br />congressional office buildings, <br />m.1dl.' the sales pilch to mt..'mbt.'rs <br />of Congress, and tt~stjfit..'d bdore <br />the Resourccs Committee.
