Recommendation: Staff gives a medium recommendation for funding of this project because of
the limited funding available.
4. Digitizing and Archiving of CWRRI /CSU Files
Beneficiary/Grantee/Contractor: CSU -Water Resources Archive, Various
Amount of Request: $60,000 Ranking: Medium
Product Produced: The majority of the funding will be spent on a feasibility study that aims to
develop an interface between CWCB imaged documents and CSU Water Resources Archive's
imaged water information. Remaining funds will be used for scanning documents and developing
infrastructure.
Water Planning Relationship: The State of Colorado is in need of more and better access to
the documentation of its water resources. A repository of significant historical documentation, the
Water Resources Archive (WRA), consists of collections from individuals and organizations that
have been instrumental in the development of water resources in Colorado. Less than 0.1% of the
documents in the WRA are digitized and online (see http://lib.colostate.edu/archives/water/). The
CWCB has far exceeded that with their documents, but researchers and water professionals who
could benefit from using both digital document systems have to learn two different interfaces.
Making the vastness of Colorado's water information more easily accessible will benefit the
community at large. A common approach to both the WRA and CWCB document systems could
potentially be extended to other organizations in the state.
This project aims to address both an increase in access to digital documents and improvement of the
same. First, in conducting a feasibility study related to digital document systems, this project will
determine how best the WRA and the CWCB can bring together their resources through a common
interface. A feasibility study will be conducted to examine the systems already in use at both
organizations and examine models of how best to make them work together. Second, to further
improve access to Colorado water documents, part of this project will focus on scanning at least
12,000 pages of materials held by WRA. For the most part, these items are only available at Morgan
Library in Fort Collins, so access will be greatly increased by scanning them, indexing them, and
making them available online through a common search interface.
Recommendation: Staff gives a medium recommendation for funding of this project because
other funding has become available.
5. Sago Pondweed and Eurasian Watermilfoil Management
Beneficiary/Grantee/Conh•actor: CSU, Various
Amount of Request: $45,000 Ranking: Low
Product Produced: CSU is evaluating new management strategies for sago pondweed and
Eurasian Water Milfoil control under greenhouse conditions. The information we generate from
these studies will be used to direct field demonstration projects across Colorado in an effort to define
the best use pattern for these new management strategies
18
