the continued success of the program and to ensure continued federal funding for the full-time
position.
Water Information Program
1. Lost Creek Basin Groundwater Study
Beneficiary/Grantee/Contractor: CGS, Various
Amount of Request: $54,500
Ranking: Medium
Product Produced: This study would evaluate and refine existing knowledge of the Lost Creek
Basin alluvial hydrogeology for the purposes of assessing the potential for aquifer recharge and
storage implementation.
Water Planning Relationship: This study would advance the recommendations of Senate Bill
06-193 covering the Underground Water Storage Study by CWCB to look at potential underground
storage areas in more detail.
Recommendation: Staff gives a medium recommendation for funding of this project because
other funding may become available.
2. Enhancing Groundwater Recharge in Mountainous Regions
Beneficiary/Grantee/Contractor: Clear Creek County, Various
Amount of Request: $50,000 Ranking: Medium
Product Produced: This study would identify enhanced recharge opportunities that may be
implemented locally to maintain groundwater levels.
Water Planning Relationship: Increased urbanization can reduce natural groundwater
recharge, and with increased groundwater withdrawals, sti-eamflow, runoff, aquatic habitats and
wetlands may be affected detrimentally. This project aims to provide local entities the knowledge
and engineering criteria to implement low-cost groundwater recharge strategies.
Recommendation: Staff gives a medium recommendation for funding of this project because of
the limited funding available.
3. Energy and Water Analyst
Beneficiary/Grantee/Conh•actor: CWCB, Various
Amount of Request: $116,000
Ranking: Medium
Product Produced: Hiring an energy and water use analyst to assist the Water Information
Program in quantifying the water use associated with energy development within Colorado.
Water Planning Relationship: CWCB is actively engaged in responding to the increased
production of energy and energy related resources throughout the state. This support is provided
directly to local entities and to other agencies within DNR. These responsibilities have been
absorbed by staff. However, as the pace of activities is steadily increasing, for example with the
proposal to commercially develop oil shale, CWCB needs a single point of coordination and
analysis.
17
