Summary of Proposal
The OWCDP received a Water Efficiency Grant application from the Colorado Watershed
Network (CWN), anon-profit agency located in Denver, Colorado. The CWN dedicated to
promoting the health of Colorado's watersheds through nonbiased and community based science
and support, and to educating the youth and Colorado in the importance of our water resources.
The CWN has proven its leadership in educating the citizens of Colorado in water resources over
the last 12 years, and by partnering with national Project WET, Division of Wildlife (DOW),
River Watch, and other partnering agencies. It will further the goals of the CWCB by providing
comprehensive water education to our future leaders.
The grant applicant proposes to expand on the current Project WET and to hire an additional
water education specialist to assist in proactively growing the program on the west slope. By
training over 500 educators (estimated) since January 2007 to integrate Project WET into the
classroom, and estimated 52,000 students, throughout Colorado, will understand that water is a
limited resource and will be able to make informed decisions for the future. The stated goal of
Project WET is "to facilitate and promote the awareness, appreciation, knowledge and
stewardship of water resources." The CWN has received support from entities and agencies
around the State who recognizes the signification of sustainable water management and
commend the CWN for their commitment with Project WET.
The total project amount for the next two years is $472,446. The applicant has demonstrated a
total matching contribution of 82% of the total project budget; CWN and supporting partners
provide 74% in-kind contributions and 8% matching cash contributions. The requested grant
amount from the CWCB to fund the remaining 18% of total project cost is $258,672.
