The CWN's funding is due to expire in June 2008. The CWN is
requesting $268,672, over the next two years (July 2008 -June 2010), to continue the program
and to hire an additional Water Education Specialist to continue in these efforts and to focus
more on opportunities on the west slope. This project has provided curriculum resources and
training for hundreds of educators annually in Colorado, and over 30,000 annually throughout
the United States and the world. Project WET is founded on the belief that youth, K-12 students,
need to develop an awareness and appreciation of how water is used in everyday life if they are
to understand what is happening to our water resources and take action to protect and conserve
our limited natural resources.
Recommendation
The OWCDP staff recommends that the Board award a Water Efficiency Grant in the amount of
$258,672 over the next two years to the Colorado Watershed Network (CWN) to aid in achieving
their goal to educate Colorado K-12 students and teachers about water and the importance of
using this resource wisely.
Water Supply Protection • Watershed Protection & Fluud blitigatiun • Stream & Lake Protection • Water Supply Planning & Finance
Water Conservation & Drought Planning • Intrastate ~F'ater Management & Development
