with the pipeline; the irrigators have already paid $14.50/acre (this has been paid
for exclusively by the water users in the area); when will state of CO step up to
help provide compliance because it is the state's responsibility ...this is one small
way to contribute to overall effort out there. Retiring 350-600 acft of consumptive
use... over time, this will show up to answer to our compact debt. Given that the
lion's share is being paid for by the individual water users, this is a small way to
put state money to help.
Shimmin: Land owners will retire an additional 10,000 acres to free up 3000 ac ft
of water that will be pumped through the pipeline to deliver in KS.
Gerk: So water users are in fact drying up land to meet the compact.
Charney: One other aspect is to see that this is a pilot, and ideally could expand
from here; thus we would be funding something to come out of this exercise.
Vote: Opposed: Five; In favor, 26
Tom Iseman: Abstains from vote.
Money in Basin Account remaining:
$245,453
Slununin: Proposes that we look at Weld County School District REI Wetland
Partnership
Motion to approve in full
Second by Sasha Charney;
Gary Herman and Bill Jerke abstain
Harold Evans: Strong points: School district is a user, wells curtailed,
environmental group as sponsoring agent, wildlife benefit, and Central Water
Conservancy District that is working diligently to augment well; great coalition
for multi-benefit project
Joe Frank: These types of projects have worked in lower river, wants to see it
work in upper river
Charney: very valuable that this reaches to school children
Vote: Unanimous.
203,000
Harold Evans: On the Arickaree: This motion is for $19,984 from basin account
and from state wide account $79,936.
Eric Wilkinson: Reminder: Basin funds considered in every meeting. March May
and July meetings; these that are being approved, will be approved in May;
Jolu1 Metli: On Georgetown project: because of other sources of revenue to
complete this project, and because they have other sources, I do not feel we
should fiend the Georgetown Gate.
Jolu7 Stencil My comment would be similar; I would like to move that we
approve the Pinewoods Springs for $200,000; this would leave us $3,000.
Motion fails for a second.
Jolu1 Metli: On the Pinewood project, is part of this money to be used to acquire
additional water rights?
Jerke: As I heard, this is for the project.
13
