-

2

-

7. The movement and ecological effect of silver iodide.
Each of the above sub~projects is reported on separately, but the
Discussion Section (p. 365) includes an attempt to integra~e the
results whenever it seems reasonable and logical to do so.
The contract between the Bureau of Reclamation and the University
of Wyoming was established in September, 1971, and shortlyu thereafter
a Cooperative Agreement (No. 16~252-CA) was established between the
University and the Rocky Mountain Forest and Range Experiment Station
(U. S. Forest Service). Nearly ail of the Medicine Bow Mountains lie
within the Medicine Bow National Forest, and Forest Service scientists
(Thilenius and Ward) worked closely with University scientists in
developing the research program. Numerous meetings were h~ld during
the winter of 1971-72 in order to select study areas and evaluate
research design. Considerable effort was devoted during ~his time to
the synthesis of existing knowledge about the ecosystems.of,the Medicine
Bow Mounta i .ns.
Field work began as soon as possible in 1972, and continued until
late summer, 1974. Most of the data were gathered in the spring ar;'d
summer, but some fiel~ work was done d~ring the winter ~s well.
Several projects were ~caled down or eliminated in early 1973 due to'
an unexpected budgetary restriction, however a subsequent addition to
our budget in late 1973 and a new agreement (Amendatory Agreement No.
.. .

I) with the Bureau led to a 7 month extension. We have been able to
accomplish the principal objectives of our original proposal, though
some questions remain unanswered about the ecological effects of cloud
seeding with silver iodide. We identify these unanswered questions
along with our res~lts.

-
'l

.. ~

.
.. .

-

-

-.

-

....

-

-

-

~.'.

- '~

-
