If we can get this last portion of the funding, we will start (and complete) the project at
the end of the 2008 irrigation season. Some of our members will attend the meeting to
answer any remaining questions. Thank you for your consideration.
Regards,
Bob Scott
Treasurer, Bauer Lake Company
==============================================================
Bauer Lake Headgate Project Summary:
The project is to fix a 33 year old corrugated outlet pipe at Bauer Lake by installing a
liner which would last a “lifetime” and allow this pipe through the dam to be pressurized
to full lake head pressure (not currently possible).
Bauer Lake is the source of water for a ditch and pipe delivery system (pipe portion
managed under Lower Bauer West Lateral, a sister organization). The dam outlet is
currently connected to the distribution pipe through an open tank, with both the headgate
and the individual distribution valves controlled manually. There is no means to
coordinate supply volume (the headgate setting) with delivery volume (each user’s valve
position) – a mismatch causes either failure to deliver or waste overflow down the creek.
Two years of attempting to balance the system manually have been only marginally
successful and is consume 2-3 man hours per day.
If we can pressurize this pipe, we can connect it directly to the Lower Bauer pipe
providing several benefits:
Allows a self regulating system without the overflow waste (currently roughly
estimated at 20% of the usage) better satisfying the Salinity project goals that
were justification for the installation of the Lower Bauer pipe.
Provides water under full head pressure so members at the top of the pipe can get
water (currently unreliable).
Allow accurate measurement of water discharge at the headgate (installing a flow
meter at the headgate). Total volume is currently approximated by summing the
individual user’s meters.
