Bauer Lake Company
c/o Bob Scott
Sundance Bear
Box 1045
Mancos, CO 81328
25 December 2007
Dear Mr. Harris:
Please accept this letter (email) as our re-application to the Roundtable for grant funding
to help defray the costs of repairing the dam headgate at Bauer Lake, Mancos, CO. This
letter is requesting that the CWCB Basin Roundtable increase their contribution proposal
from $20,000 to $40,000 which would allow us to complete the upgrade / repair. This
would have the membership contributing $55,000 (50%) via cash and loans of the total
project cost of $110,000, the CWCB supplying $40,000 (36%) and the last $15,000
(14%) by a grant from the Southwest Water Conservation District (SWCD).
With your recommendation, we are not repeating the entire application paperwork since
the ONLY request relates to funding. The underlying application has not changed and
remains identical to what has been reviewed before – except the funding. A summary of
the project is appended to the end of this letter.
The Roundtable has previously approved $20,000 of support. Since then we were turned
down by the State but have received a positive decision from the SWCD in December for
additional funding, contingent upon the above request.
The SWCD is willing to add $15,000 toward the project in grant funding. Then the
breakthrough came when the SWCD also offered to EXPAND their loans to us by
$28,000 and to EXTEND the number of years so the annual payments would remain
constant, something which our membership could afford. This left $20,000 in needed
funding – and the reason for this request.
If all goes as planned, the funding for this project would be:
Source Amount Percent
Member Assessment $27,000 25%
Member Loan (SWCD) $28,000 25%
(total member share 50%)
SWCD grant $15,000 14%
CWCB* (previous grant) $20,000 18%
CWCB* this request $20,000 18%
Total $110,000 100%
* Through the Basin Roundtable
Note: the members also currently carry an approximately $83,400 loan from CWCB
(through the Lower Bauer West Lateral) and $17,700 (two loans) from the SWCD. The
SWCD loans would be increased by $28,000. We are current on all loans.
