<br />corridor; and <br />4. sustaining historic water use patterns that assist in administering Rio Grande waters, sustaining the <br />longest possible irrigation season, and maintaining instream flows in the river. <br /> <br />Expectations are that the application and partnering conservation organizations will work with willing <br />landowners to achieve acceptable terms and implement conservation easements to protect the land and water <br />rights in perpetuity. <br /> <br />The need for this project is urgent as historic ranches are being converted into ranchettes, thereby altering <br />water and land uses. This proposal is a timely opportunity to met the needs of several government and non- <br />profit organizations to preserve land and water in the SL V. <br /> <br />This conservation activity is important to the residents, agencies, districts and conservationists of the SL V for <br />the many benefits cited above and as a viable, voluntary option to fragmentation and residential development <br />of river corridor land and water. <br /> <br />There are noTABOR issues associated with this project. <br /> <br />Page 22 of 32 <br /> <br />Rio Grande Initiative <br /> <br />Janual'Y 2008 <br />
