provided during the 1030 standup briefing as necessary each operational day or
as requested by the Site Director to support intensive aircraft and ground-
based data collection and seeding activities. This briefing time can be mod-
ified by mutual agreement between the forecaster and the Site Director to
accommodate changing weather conditions. The forecasting of expected seedable
conditions necessary for the conduct of randomized seeding experiments will be
of primary importance (See special forecast exercise in Section II-C). Status
reports and daily activities will be communicated via a daily 1100 conference
call between all project participants.

The checkpoint at 1800 will be used to notify the Site Director of the likeli-
hood of an early morning flight the following day. If no flight is antici-
pated, a more informal evening call between Forecaster B and the Site Director
wi 11 be requi red at 2100 every eveni ng as requested by the Site Di rector.
This will be for planning the next days operation or coordinating flights
after 0700 but before 1000. If an evening fl ight is being conducted no
evening calls will be required. If an early morning flight is called for,
Forecaster A will confirm the decision at 0300 by initiating a wake-up call to
the Site Director and Aircraft Seeding Coordinator. They will notify the
respective crews to the days activities. If a second flight is possible on a
given day, Forecaster A will provide an informal briefing to the Site Director
between 0900 and 1100 to determine the type of mission to be f10wn.

The Rhea orographic QPF (Quantitative Precipitation Forecast) model has been
adapted for use in the SCPP us i ng the topography for the central Si erra.
Excerpts from this adaptation will be employed as an objective aid in pre-
paring quantitative precipitation forecasts for the project area. Output will
also aid in forecasting conditions that may require suspension of project
seeding activities.

11-4

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
