I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

5

collected from the nine sites visited -- two of the sites
already having been established during the previous trip.
Snowfall in these profiles covers storms 1-10 in the cases
of sampling sites UTC - UTI and storms 8-10 at sites UTA and
UTB.

The third sampling trip was conducted March 10 through
13, 1983. A total of 274 samples were collected from the 18
sites visited. Ninety-five snow samples were collected from
sites UTA-UTI covering snowfall from storms 11-19. Samples
collected from sites UTK-UTS cover snowfall from the entire
field season. The additional nine sites were selected in
the ~arget area to increase the possibility of finding
indium. This was done because after the second sampling
trip the state operational program had been suspended for
seve:ral reasons: including, above normal snowpack (130%);
forecasted high stream runoff levels (-200%); and low reser-
voir storage levels needed to contain the expected runoff
(Minersvil1e -320%).

It was decided, at this point, to continue releasing
indium oxide only. Data for the indium mass versus water
mass (scavenging) relationship could still be obtained by
these continued releases of indium oxide. Also, these
releases would still provide information about the program's
targetting effectiveness.

On the third expedition minor sample collection problE~ms
were encountered when, arriving at sites UTB, UTD, UTH and
UTI, the snow boards and stakes were found missing.
