A cold weather survival kit will be carried aboard containing the following items for a crew of four (4):

1) Handheld ELT
2) Compact sleeping bag
3) Freeze dried rations and water (2 days)
4) Sterno stove
5) Flare kit
6) Survival tools, knife, etc.

AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL: A TC will be contacted prior to the project dates and informed of the nature of
the requirements for the project. The lower altitude portions of the tracklines will be flown in VMC prior to
the project and an attempt will be made to find areas of no VHF communications with A TC. If an area of no
VHF comm is found, this will be explained to ATC before attempting IFR flights on these portions of the
tracklines.

A block airspace clearance will need to be obtained.

A personal visit by the flight and scientific crew to the A TC facility may be profitable to coordinate mission
communication and procedural details.

INITIALIZATION: Before the project is begun, the tracklines will be thoroughly flown under VMC conditions.
Before nay project trackline is flown under IMC conditions at an altitude below TSA < at least two (2) hours
of flight time must be spent in VFR conditions flying that line. This flight time should be at the lowest project
altitude. All anticipated turning areas should be researched. All segments of these tracklines will be evaluated
for emergency exits away from the mountains. The resulting information will be noted and the pilots will become
familiar with the terrain on all segments of the tracklines. This information will be annotated upon the charts
and notes used by the pilots for navigation during the project.

CALIBRATION: Before take-off from Provo, the ANI 7000 Loran and GPS will be checked for proper
horizontal calibration to within 0.2 minutes of latitude and longitude.

SPECIAL PROVISIONS AND FLIGHT RESTRICTIONS:

1) Emergency instructions for trackline exit:

~
Before flying any tracklines in [MC below TSA, the PIC shall provide handwritten exit
procedures for all segments of tracklines to NOAA Aircraft Operations Center, Flight
Operations Division.

2) General lost engine or heavy icing requirements:

The PIC will prepare scenarios for escape from the trackline and the mountains (based on the
King Air single engine or iced twin engine performance at the project altitudes) when the
aircraft cannot maintain a normal twin engine rate of climb.

All trackline way points shall be entered and documented for each cockpit reference.

3) Waypoint documentation:

Trackline waypoints shall be documented for quick cockpit reference. Before a trackline is
flown, that trackline's waypoints shall be entered in the navigation equipment. These waypoints
shall be test flown under VMC and visually confirmed on a sectional chart prior to IMC flight.
Waypoints may be used as desired by the flight crew to describe trackline segments for altitude

2
