<br />An initial run was made with the sonic tool without stabilizers, i.e., <br />the tool was pulled along the bottan of the outlet pipe. The tool became <br />stuck 27 feet frcm the upstream end of the outlet pipe. The tool was <br />retrieved, stabilizers were placej on it (which raised it approximately 3 <br />inches off the bottan of the outllet pipe) and another logging run was made <br />wi thout obstruction to the tool. <br />The seoond tool used was the <xmbination tool, i.e., ganma, garrma-garrma <br />an:J caliper. Since this tool must remain in contact with the bottan of the <br />outlet pipe, it was oot possible 1:0 utilize stabilizers. The tool became <br />stuck at 27 feet fran the upstream end of the outlet- pipe. The tool was <br />renoved, and the remaining 27 feet: were logged separately fran the upstream <br />end. <br /> <br />The third, and final, tool used was the neutron log. As with the <br />cx:mbination tool, it was not p:>ssible to utilize stabilizers. The too~ <br />became stuck at 27 feet frcm the upstream end of the outlet pipe, and <br />therefore the remaining 27 feet were logged separately fran the upstream <br />end. During the neutron logging, the downstream end of the outlet pipe was <br />damned to increase the depth of water in the outlet pipe. <br />All logging information was recorded on magnetic tape for o:::mputer <br />processing. An analog recording o:E each log was made in the field to <br />ascertain that the desired results were being obtained. A ropy of the logs <br />is included with this rep:>rt. <br /> <br />RESULTS <br /> <br />The results of the logging performed in the Southside Reser'llOir outlet <br />pipe are presented in this section. A surrmary of interpreted logging data <br />is presented in Table 1. <br /> <br />SCNIC :ux; <br /> <br />The average exmpressional wave velocity for sound roncrete, such as <br />concrete used in caisson or drill hole cementing operations ranges frcm <br />U,OOO to 18,000 feet per second.
