A map of the current conditions, as well as project op- <br />porrunities and cOllStrainrs will also be developed. 'TIle repons will be posted on the Fountain <br />Creek website by early March; the map will be available in late April. <br /> <br />In addition, a funding options and project implementation working group is meeting to discuss <br />the formation of a watershed authority, and an outreach committee is meeting to discuss public <br />outreach and education techniques in the watershed. For further information or to join the <br />fountain Creek listserv comact hbergman@keystone.org. <br /> <br />Peak to Prairie Project (Land Conservation Initiative) <br /> <br />fOr more infirmation please llisit wlVw.coloradoopenlallds.org <br /> <br />'Ihe Peak to Prairie Project is a large-scale conservation initiative focusing on key natural and <br />cultural resources in EI Paso, Pueblo, Lincoln and Crowley cOllnties. TIle project involves many <br />panners and stretches from Cheyenne Mountain in the west to the western half of Lincoln and <br />Crowley counties in the cast, from the City of Colorado Springs in the north to the City of <br />Pueblo and the Arkansas River in the south. 'I he project covers over 2.1 million acres of prairie, <br />creek, mountains and plains. 'lhrough a GOCO Legacy Gram, Colorado Open Lands n:ceived <br />1.75 million dollars that will be used for the Peak to Prairie Conservation Initiative. 'Ihis money, <br />in addition to a cash match of $3.7 million will be used ro purchase conservation casements <br />in the project area. Approximately $2.1 million will be used for El Paso County conservation <br />projects. <br /> <br />'Ihis project will address the mixed needs of a region facing rapid growth and the challenge of <br />maintaining working agricultural lands. It is a IO-year project to protect approximately 250,000 <br />acres encompassing 28 miles of the Fountain Creek corridor. These lands provide breathtaking <br />scenery, wildlife habitat and recreational opportunities in lWO types oflandscapes - riparian cor- <br />ridors and imperiled shortgrass prairie, <br />
