Approximately one-third of Frederick citizens over 24 years old did not graduate
from high school, compared with the State average of 15.6%. Sixty-eight percent of Frederick
residents have a high school degree or higher and 6.8 % have a bachelor's degree or higher compared
with State averages of 84.4% and 27% respectively.

However, for all the people in Frederick whose poverty status is determined, less than 12% (or 115
people) fall below poverty levels compared to 15% of Weld County residents. The percentage of
families in Frederick living below poverty level is also less than the figure for Weld County. In
Frederick, 9.1 % of all families live below poverty level compared to 10.6% of Weld County families.
The federal government determines poverty level thresholds by taking three times the cost of the
economy food plan and factoring in family size and the number of related children in a household. For
instance, the average poverty threshold in 1989 was $8,076 for a two-person household and $12,874
for a four-person household. The government derived this formula based on the assumption that
families of three or more typically spend one-third of their income on food.

40%

z
o
I- 30%
<
...I
::)
0.
o
0.
u.. 20%
o
I-
Z
W
o
~
w 10%
0.

0%

EOUCA TION DISTRIBUTION

; ;
NO DIPLOMA HIGH SCHOOL SOME COLLEGE ASSOC DEGREE BACHELOR'S GRADUATE

AGE.

8

D

FREDERICK

WELD COUNTY

.

COLORADO
