Leroux Creek flows in
a general southward direction until reaching the North Fork ofthe Gunnison River. Most runoff
in Leroux Creek occurs as a result of snowmelt over the basin. The basin area of Leroux Creek
above gauge 09134500 (1345) shown on Figure 1 is 36 square miles. The average elevation of
the basin is 9,718 feet above mean sea level. Surface Creek, a basin adjacent to Leroux Creek,
has a watershed area of28 square miles above gauge 09143000 (1430) and an average basin
elevation of 9,865 feet. Cow Creek is a tributary to Leroux Creek, with a basin area of 6 square
miles and an average basin elevation of 8,730 feet. Cow Creek meets Leroux Creek a few
hundred feet downstream of gauge 1345 and, therefore, runoff data at this gauge does not include
runoff from Cow Creek.

Figure 1
Surface Creek, Leroux Creek and Cow Creek Basins

~o~

-2-
