Feasibility of Construction
of the
Lower Platte & Beaver Canal Company
Augmentation Project

Project Sponsor

The Lower Platte and Beaver Canal Company (LPBCC) is a Colorado
mutual ditch company and a non-profit corporation.

LPBCC was formed in late 1800's to constru~t and operate the
Lower Platte and Beaver Canal for the benefit of the
shareholders. The LPBCC currently has 90 shareholders with 1476
shares of stock. The Company can divert 322 cubic feet of water
per second of time from the South Platte River, at a headgate
located about 3 miles West of Brush, Colorado. From this
headgate, the LPBCC has had an average annual diversion of 37,000
acre feet or approximately 25 acre ,feet per share.

The ground under the LPBCC is also irrigated with 101 tributary
groundwater wells. The wells pump on average 15,000 acre-feet of
water annually. In previous years, these 101 wells were partially
augmented under their own augmentation plan with the remaining
augmentation being provided by the Groundwater Appropriators of
the South Platte (GASP) substitute water supply plan.

Project Service Area

The service area is located in Morgan and Washington Counties,
from just North of the City of Brush to Prewitt Reservoir. The
service area is located on the South side of the South Platte
River. The LPBCC service area irrigates on the average 15,000
acres. The water is typically used to irrigate corn, alfalfa,
beans, and sugar beets. A map of the general service area is
found on page 3.

Feasibility Study
Lower Platte and Beaver
Augmentation Project
January 2004

1
