Based on this %, an additional 11,200 acre 74,800
feet or more, may need to be added to the 74,800 AF already identified to meet demands
throughout the entire basin.
Projections are as the entities reported them to the Farm Bureau. Not all entities have done long term projections.
~Additional Water Needs were calculated by subtracting the smaller of the existing yield numbers from the estimated 2030 Water Demands values.
Compact Requirements:
Colorado has the right to fully use the waters of the South Platte between October 15 and April 1. Between April 1 and October
15, if the mean flow of the South Platte at Julesburg drops below 120 cfs, water rights on the South Platte in Colorado between
the western boundary of Washington County and the state line (Lower Section) with priority dates junior to June 14,1897 are
curtailed. Colorado reserves the right to develop 35,000 acre-feet of storage in the Lower Section, but only in the event that the
Perkins County Canal in Nebraska is built. That canal would divert flow from the South Platte near the town of Ovid into
Nebraska.
References
l. Colorado Water Develo~ment Study, Colorado Farm Bureau,1997
2.
