The HID was formed in 19~7 Irr~ga~ion District Law of 1945, and consists of 32,745 acres of
irrigated farm land in Weld County. The service area starts about 2 rniles west of Hudson and
extends generally east and south along ~-76, to aaout 9 miles east of Keenesburg. The H1D
diverts wa~er through the Burlingtvn Canal Headworks on the South P~atte River, extending ~ 6
mifes to and past Barr Lake. From Barr Lake the Denver-Hudson Canal continues 25 miles to
Horse Creek Reservoir, and then continues anvther 25 miles fo Praspect Reservo'rr. Annua! H~D
del~very is 19,115 AF. Horse Creek Reservoir was constructed in 19~~, and is a High Hazard,
Class ~ earth ftii dam, with a dam height of 64 ~eet, a lengfh of 4800 ~ineal feet, and a crest width of
16 feet. There is a 204 foo~ wide ear~h-Eined spiilway. The dec~eed storage right is 19,515 AF, but
normal storage ~s 18,747 acre feet. The outlef works consist o~ 3 x 48" diameter steel conduifs.
The proposed project wii~ provide a l~ning for the outlet works, ins~all additional toe drainage, and
resurface and re-grade the dam crest. P~ospect Reservoir was constructed in 1914, and is a
Sign~ficant Hazard, Class 2 earth dam, w~th a dam heigh~ o~ 43.5 ~ee#, a~ength of 5,3~1 linea~ feet,
and a c~est width of 20 ~eet. There is a 25~ wide concrete and riprap spilivuay. The decreed
storage r~ght if for 1,66~ AF, but the norma! storage ~s 6,368 acre ~eet. The vutlet works consist o~ a
48" concrete pipe tha~ na~rows fo about 3~" downs~rearn o~ fhe control gate, due to previous re-
lining projects. The reservo~r is currently restr~cted to 1.5 feet beFow the his#oric maximurn stage,
due ~o concerns about the stability of the downstream slope of the dam. The proposed p~oject wiiE
provide a i~ning for ~he oufle# wo~ks, and resurface and re-grade the dam crest.
