001700

6 X "13 Wheel-mounted Gate

. \

· All inspections will require unwatering of the penstock.

· Perform interior inspection after:

5 days of operation with Main outlet works above 3200 c.f.s
.. The 5 day requirement should be expected to change with
information 'gained during operations and subsequent inspections.
Detailed records of flowrates and the time the gate was exposed
should be kept for the inspection.

Yearly for all flows:
.. Perform interior inspection early enough before spring startup to
effect repairs if necessary.

. [Inspection requires closure and lockout of 6-foot by 13-foot gate and
draining of the penstock.

. Ilnspection for interior damage
- If damaged, plans should be made for immediate repair.
Cavitation will "jump" downstream and will multiply it's damage
rapidly. The frame is cast in concrete. The more welding required,
the more likely cracking is to occur.
· Inspect the cylinder operator, hoist shaft, head cover, wheels, seals,
l;tructural and hydraulic piping integrity
· I:ntry to the gate requires penstock dewatering and providing fresh air. The
!~ate' s downstream interior section is the only part that can be accessed
without installation of a bulkhead.
· The concrete transition should also be inspected for integrity at the same
time the 6-foot by 13-foot gate is inspected. It's structural integrity should
be verified both at the gate bOdy and at the connection to the 11 O-inch
penstock.
· The filling line bypass should be checked for integrity yearly. This should be
performed along with the gate repairs. The inspection should include
ultrasonic inspection of the piping.

-
